THE Queen might be considered one of the most famous people on earth, but to her great-grandson, Prince George, she is just "Gan-Gan" – a nickname the six-year-old started using when he was just two-and-a-half.
And it seems the sweet name has been in the family for some time as it's believed to have been a nickname used by his Grandfather, Prince Charles, for his own grandmother, the Queen mother.
Kate Middleton, 38, first revealed her son's nickname for his great-grandmother in her first solo interview in 2016.
She said: "George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her "Gan-Gan".
“She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for her family."
But, according to Express, an extract from a souvenir brochure from his 1969 investiture as the Prince of Wales revealed that it was Prince Charles, 71, who first came up with the name.
The brochure read: “His mother spent as much time with her son as her duties allowed and part of the day was always devoted to him.
“Often, he was taken to visit Queen Mary — whom he called Gan-Gan — at Marlborough House and the Queen — later known as the Queen Mother — as Buckingham Palace.”
Although Mary died when Charles was just four years old, it seemed the pair were close – just like Prince George and the Queen herself.
Some critics believe that Prince George, the third-in-line to the throne after his father Prince William and grandfather Charles, is is the Queen’s favourite great-grandchild, with a royal insider claiming that the monarch “goes out of her way to spend time with him”.
Charlotte, four, is also believed to have followed after her big brother George and has now dubbed the Queen "Gan-Gan" too.
But according to PopSugar, it seems "Gan-Gan" isn't the only nickname used by family members to address the Queen as Prince William, Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie all call her Granny.
In other royal news, we told you how The Queen sees grandson Prince Harry as ‘prodigal son’ and will ‘welcome him back with open arms’.
And Meghan Markle said it ‘was good to be out connecting with people’ when she delivered food parcels with Prince Harry.
Plus, Meghan Markle hinted at having another baby as she said she wants a ‘pint-sized buddy’ for Archie, an insider claimed.
