A WOMAN has spoken out about what it’s really like being a nun after being inundated with questions from the public.

After one person asked her what her hair looked like and whether she was allowed to keep it long or cut it, she decided to come on her social media to address some questions.

Dressed in a white shirt with her habit on, she shared: “I find it hilarious how often I get asked this question in real life and on the internet, so I’m just going to keep it simple.”

She then lifted her hands up to just above her shoulders, explaining that this is how long her hair is.

“Our only requirement with hair in our community is that it’s simple and easy to take care of so it doesn’t… so you don’t spend a lot of time on it.

“That’s it, that’s the whole answer.”

But this isn’t the only topic she’s covered on her TikTok page, where she goes by the username @srbethanyfsp.

In another clip, she spoke out about whether nuns are allowed to wear make-up as she said: “In an effort to live poorly and simply… No, we don’t wear make-up.”

Meanwhile, in a third video she spoke out about the use of the internet.

One person asked: “Are you allowed to have unrestricted internet/phone access? Is it common in most convents?”

She replied: “So this question is kind of fun because it varies community to community. So some communities don’t have internet or technology at all.

“But my community does because we work with the media and work with technology.”

Sister Bethany added that they produce videos and books amid other things that they use media to promote.

“But at the same time, we the sisters are always asking ourselves, ‘Ok, is this a good use of my time? Am I putting things out that are good, true and beautiful?’” she continued.

“So those are things I think we can all ask ourselves and that’s how we can moderate and limit our social media use and our internet use.”

And when asked whether she’s allowed to visit friends and family often, she revealed that she is.

“Yes, we do,” she said. “I just got back from my home visit, so I went to go visit family down in Maryland, which is really fun.”

She said they get to see their friends and families for three to four weeks, which is a “blessing”.

Meanwhile, if she’s stationed somewhere close to her family, they can also come and visit her.
