A DOCTOR has compared a viral high-end luxury sunscreen to a popular high-street one to prove that you don’t have to spend high for good sun protection.

Dr Gary Linkov’s chosen products had a whopping £169.50 price difference.

The posh pot was the La Prairie Cellular Swiss UV Protection Veil SPF 50 which costs £185 for a 50ml bottle.

It was rated against the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF30 which will set you back £15.50 for 52ml of product.

Taking to YouTube, Dr Gary valued them on reliable sun protection, beneficial ingredients, packaging, product feeling and value for the price.

And while it didn’t hit the luxury marks, the CeraVe sunscreen provides excellent protection and better value for money – the two most important things.

“CeraVe Facial Moisturiser SPF 30 is a lightweight organic and inorganic sunscreen, meaning it uses both chemical and mineral filters for sun protection,” Dr Gary explained.

What’s more, its La Prairie competitor didn’t even have better sun filter ingredients – despite the price tag suggesting it might.

“The CeraVe sunscreen also has some interesting and beneficial ingredients, including three ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and vitamin B3,” the doc added.

“Which can all help to calm and moisturise the skin.

“This is a simpler formula than La Prairie.

“However, having a shorter ingredient list also has its advantages.

“Fewer ingredients decrease the opportunity for allergic reactions or irritation for those with reactive skin.

“The omission of fragrance also makes this a potentially less irritating option.”

Dr Gary worked out that the designer bottle only has 42 uses in it for adequate sun protection – working out at £4.30 a use.

However, the CeraVe bottle contains 75 uses and works out at 19p a use.

The informative video struck a chord with skincare fanatics – particularly those who love CeraVe’s no-nonsense approach to products.

“I've used the CeraVe product for three years,” one woman commented.
