A DENTAL hygienist has shared exactly how you should be brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush.

After seeing time and time again how often people clean their teeth the wrong way, Krysta has taken it upon herself to explain how to do it the proper way.

“I’m a registered dental hygienist, so I have street cred in this particular field,” she explained before launching into her step-by-step guide.

“So many people use their electric toothbrush like it’s a manual toothbrush and they can do more harm than good, so I’m going to show you a simple way to brush your teeth and it’ll change everything,” she went on.

Calling the Oral B iO the “Ferrari of toothbrushes”, she told viewers to place their preferred brand of electric toothbrush at a 45 degree angle towards the gums.

“What you’re going to do is you’re going to split your mouth up into four,” she continued. “So I use upper right, upper left, lower right, lower left. You get the gist.

I’m a dental hygienist – why you should share toothbrushes & the step to skip

“I start on my back molar. If you can’t get all the way back there easily, you close down your mouth a little bit and your cheek will move out slightly.

“So when your toothbrush is accurate, you’re going to drag it along each tooth. You’re going to move it from tooth to tooth.”

TikTok user @krystaroseheath then told viewers to put the toothbrush on the inside of their mouth to do the other side.

“Most people do not focus on the inside of their teeth. Do this more than the outside. Trust me, your hygienist will thank you,” she shared.

“And then you’re going to do your chewing surfaces,” she went on, placing the toothbrush flat against the bottom and tops of her teeth.

Summarising what she wants people to do, she said: “So it’s going to be on the outside, the inside and the chewing surfaces on each quadrant for two minutes. So 30 seconds per area.

“If you do that, your teeth are going to be so much cleaner. Please do not scrub with your toothbrush, you are not cleaning grout.

“Lastly, I’m going to throw this one in for free, if you rinse your mouth with water after brushing your teeth, you’ve just lost all of the benefits of the toothpaste…”

People were quick to praise Krysta on her informative clip as one person wrote: “I’m so glad you did this video. Nearly everyone I’ve seen use an electric toothbrush uses it wrong!”

Another said: “They should teach kids in school how to properly brush. I did it wrong this whole time! I always rinsed with water!”

While a third added: “glad to know I’ve been doing all of these things the last 8-9 years since getting my electric toothbrush”. [sic]
