But one mum has gone to extreme lengths to make sure her son is kitted out in designer clobber the moment he's born.
Claire Chanelle, from the UK, shared her designer baby clothes haul over on YouTube – including matching mummy and son Fendi outfits.
Bagging most of her buys from the designer retailer Farfetch, she said: "I've mainly focused on the quality of the fabrics, so you do have to pay a little bit more for that."
The first item she picked out was a Fendi baby grow that cost £520, completely covered in the Fendi logo.
The mum even bagged herself a matching dress for £1,350 in the same print for a cute mummy-and-son look.

Claire added: "That is definitely a show-stopper."
The mum also picked up a Gucci changing bag for £1,170 so the pair can still look stylish even when changing nappies.
She added that the bag not only looked amazing but was super practical, with durable material and multiple compartments, and a long strap.
Although the mum was gifted some of the items, she said she already had her eye on the bag and would have paid outright for it anyway.

The mum also picked out a Gucci beanie hat for her son which cost £85, some Ralph Lauren rompers and luxe Il Gufo rompers.
The video has since gone viral with over 24k views and 1,000 likes.
People quickly took to the comments section of the video sharing their thoughts on the haul.
One person wrote: "Everything is just beautiful, baby clothes are the best! I can imagine how excited you all are…"
Another commented: "This baby is going to be seriously fashionable!"
"Oh how I love the Fendi outfits. Every piece is so precious and I can't wait for baby boy's photo shoot," penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: "Perfect mommy and baby look!! Can’t wait to see you two wearing later."
"Darling baby clothes. That little boy is going to have the cutest clothes.,” claimed a fifth.
