A MUM has shared how she managed to totally transform an ‘eyesore’ of a table into a cute set that her kids can play on.
Mum-of-two Rachel Andrew spotted the piece of furniture in her local charity shop and – despite it being covered with a top that featured a pictures of sweets – thought it had bags of potential.
So she decided to set herself the project of changing and upcycling it, but without spending another penny.
Rachel, whose TikTok profile is @rachelandrew, explained: “I found this little table in the charity shop and I wanted to upcycle it for the kids.
“I’ve been looking for a table for ages – I just can’t really justify one right now, so I thought £15 was a great barg.
“Thankfully the jelly bean was just stuck down with sellotape, so I took that off before I even got in the house so the kids didn’t want to keep it – it was a bit of an eyesore.”

She then showed the table stripped of the sweets theme, with a light blue paint underneath.
Rachel then set to work on making it something she’d be proud to have in her home, and used some Wilko paint that she already had to start the makeover process.
She continued: “I literally didn’t want to use anything other than what I had in the house.
“So I just got the paint, which will match the front room anyway, and just the gloss that was in the cupboard.”

First, she painted the legs of the table and the back of the two chairs in the green shade.
Then, she made sure the rest also looked presentable as she applied a gloss and then a white paint to the top of the table.
She went on to say: “Once the kids went to bed, I started on the gloss on the top. I just sanded it over.
“And, to be honest, the table was in a lot better condition than I thought it was when I first saw it in the shop.
“I got the table done and then I moved onto the chairs – I just think they’re looking so fresh and nice.”
“They’ll have their very own little table and I stayed on the budget of £15.
And it seems the upcycling project provided fun for the entire family, as Rachel revealed that her little girl was keen to get in on the action.
She helped paint the top coat and did an “amazing” job.
