WE'RE all for the philosophy that accessories can make an outfit.

But while our jewellery stand is full of earrings, necklaces and bracelets, we're not sure how we feel about ASOS's latest offering – a chainmail face mask.

The e-tailer debuted its quirky mask on Twitter earlier this week, adding the caption: "Festival season/flu season/dealing with close-talkers, meet your fave new year-round piece."

Over on the ASOS website, the piece is described as having a "silver-tone finish", "draped front" and "stretch elastic straps".

You'll have to make sure you don't wear it in the rain – the instructions warn you to avoid contact with liquids.

But despite this slight impracticality, it'll still set you back £12.

Unsurprisingly, the mask has received mixed reactions on Twitter, with one shopper commenting: "Is this real?? Please don't be real :(."

Another said: "Fire your designer."

A number of people noted that it probably wouldn't do much to prevent the spread of disease.

"Except it won't stop you catching flu #wash your hands #useatissue," read one message.

Others said: "They make actual medical grade masks for sickness prevention… this is weird," and: "It’s got holes in it, and besides that looks completely ridiculous."

However, one person did write: "Bad but I love it" – so perhaps they've got one taker?

In more bizarre fashion news, a shopper who was told she "shouldn't get" Oh Polly's £40 bikini WET was left with dyed orange skin and bed sheets.

Fashion Nova has launched gym wear for men on Instagram – but shoppers can't stop staring at the model's package.

And someone has created a pair of socks with a reinforced sole for end-of-the-night sore feet.
