Zendaya made history at the 74th annual Emmy Awards on Sept. 12 when she took home the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama for her role as Rue Bennett in “Euphoria.” The former Disney Channel star was already the youngest to score an honor at the Emmys after winning the same award for playing Rue in 2020. Her 2022 win makes even more history: she’s now the youngest actress to win an acting prize twice, at just 26 years old, and the first Black woman to take home the award for lead actress in a drama series twice. Wondering who she celebrated her history-making moment with?
Zendaya stopped by the Live From E! After Party after the ceremony to discuss the night, and when asked who she texted first about her big win, she said, “Well, I didn’t have to text my mom because my mom was already there, she’s here tonight, which is very special.” But then, she slipped in the actual answer everyone was waiting for: “And I texted my boyfriend.”
While the superstar typically keeps her relationship with her Spider-Man costar Tom Holland private, it seems she was in the mood to be just a bit more forthcoming after her big Emmys victory, and we’re not complaining.
Zendaya was clearly emotional as she received her award, saying in her acceptance speech, “My greatest wish for ‘Euphoria’ was that it could help heal people. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are a Rue, I want you to know I’m so grateful for your stories, and I carry them with me, and I carry them with her.”
If you’re wondering why Holland wasn’t on hand to attend the Emmys with Zendaya, it’s because he’s busy filming his upcoming Apple TV+ drama “The Crowded Room” in New York City. Zendaya and Holland were last spotted together celebrating her 26th birthday on Sept. 1 in NYC. The pair will have much more to celebrate when they see each other next!
