Zendaya is celebrating her first big Emmy nomination.
Yesterday, the 72nd Emmy Awards announced its 2020 nominees, with Zendaya scoring a nod in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her role as Rue Bennett on the hit HBO show Euphoria. Following the news, the actress took to social media to thank fans, friends, and her Euphoria cast and crew for their support.
Along with a black-and-white behind-the-scenes shot, Zendaya wrote a sentimental message. “I’m honestly speechless,” her note began. “My heart is just overflowing with love and gratitude. I’m so incredibly honored to work beside the talented people that I get to call family. I am a small piece of a big beautiful puzzle and I’m so proud of all of you.”
The note continued, “Thank you to everyone out there who’s watched and given our show life, thank you @samlev00 @hbo @a24 for everything and @televisionacad for this beautiful acknowledgment, thank you, thank you, thank you. We out here Emmy nominated y’all!!”
Euphoria as a whole is nominated for six Emmys this year. In addition to Zendaya’s dramatic acting nom, the show is being recognized for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Music Supervision.
Zendaya is also simultaneously the youngest and only Black actress nominated within her category.
