Reports surfaced this week that the upcoming two-part Wicked movie adaptation had completed filming.
That news came just days after it was reported that production had halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, and just after it was revealed that leading lady Ariana Grande and her husband Dalton Gomez were separating.
One site reported that Ariana has completed all of her scenes and is heading back to the US this week.
However, director Jon M Chu took to social media to confirm that the movie has not yet completed filming and they still have a few days left!

“Not done yet. Just paused until the strike is over and we can finish the last pieces of the movie. We were only a few days away from being done so we were SO close,” Jon shared. “It’s been very painful to put a halt to it all but we will be back! And we will finish properly strong when the time is right. My heart goes out to our cast and crew who were cut short of what we came here to complete together.”
He also added that the release dates should not be affected by the pause in production.
“More to come but in the meantime I’m excited to excavate what we have shot for the past year here in Oz (release date shouldn’t be affected) . It has been an extraordinary adventure… more to do. #WickedMovie,” he concluded.
Jon also posted the message on his Instagram story, tagging the cast, and praising them for striking for a fair deal. “Much love to … and our beloved SAG members who are fighting for a fair deal! We stand with you.”
Those he tagged in the Instagram story post were Ariana, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bronwyn James and Keala Settle.
While he didn’t mention any actors by name who still have to film for the remaining days, we can only assume the leads, Ariana and Cynthia Erivo, will be among the final people on set.
