Don Cheadle has had an impressive career as an actor. From Crash to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the man’s had an illustrious career full of roles big and small. Now, with his newest outing as War Machine in the upcoming Disney+ series Armor Wars on the horizon, more people than ever want to know about the star. This includes questions about net worth, which we’ve got the answer to.
Cheadle’s net worth is probably less than you’d expect
While no one can deny that Cheadle is a wealthy man, his total net worth is probably a bit less than you would think for an actor of his caliber. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he’s estimated to have around $40 million.
This is definitely not a small amount of money, it certainly isn’t as high as some of the other major stars in Hollywood. Cheadle made the majority of his money through acting.
In terms of what he spends it on, a lot of his wealth goes toward charity. He’s a co-founder of the Not on Our Watch Foundation, dedicated to stopping genocide and human rights violations around the world. He also puts money toward groups like the Citizen’s Climate Lobby, of which he’s a member of the advisory board.
Cheadle has had an award-winning career over many years
Before he became known for his Marvel work, Cheadle had been an acclaimed actor for many years. He was Buck in Boogie Nights, for starters, and nearly won the Oscar for Best Actor for playing the lead in Hotel Rwanda. One of his more notable recurring roles has been in the Ocean’s franchise as Basher Tarr.
He’s been nominated no less than six times for an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy, first for his work on House of Lies, then for Black Monday.
Other forays into TV have included roles on The Simpsons and 30 Rock, as well as a brief stint on DuckTales playing Donald Duck (yes, really). Most recently, he played the villain Al-G Rhythm in Space Jam: A New Legacy.
The actor’s Marvel paychecks are shockingly small compared to most of his costars
Despite being such an important part of the MCU, Cheadle’s pay per film is astoundingly low. Based on IMDb and other sources, Cheadle only made $1 million for his debut in Iron Man 2.
While no official sources from the company have released his salary info for his follow-up appearances, it’s believed this hasn’t changed even as War Machine has become more and more prominent in each new movie.
While no one can really expect to match the likes of Robert Downey, Jr. as he rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars per film, one would expect the man who plays his character’s best friend might be earning a little more.
If the rumors that his salary still hasn’t been increased are true, he’s been making less than fellow actors like Chris Hemsworth ($15 million dollars in Infinity War), Mark Ruffalo ($15 million in Endgame), Scarlett Johansson ($20 million in Black Widow), Jeremy Renner ($15 million in Endgame), and Chris Evans ($15 million in Endgame) this whole time.
It makes sense that his salary would be somewhat less than many of the other big names given he isn’t necessarily a “main character” among the Avengers team, but it also stands to reason that by now, he’s probably earned a raise.
