Ulrika Jonsson has commented on Alexandra Burke's decision to not reveal her baby's name and gender, saying it "attracts far more attention."

Alexandra, 34, welcomed her first child in July with her footballer beau, Darren Randolph, 35.

The X Factor singer recently appeared on Loose Women, where she got emotional as she revealed the reason she's decided to keep her baby's name and gender private.

However, Ulrika, who starred with Alexandra on SAS: Who Dares Wins, has said she "can't wrap her head around" the star's decision.

Writing in her column for The Sun, Ulrika, 55, said: "Announcing you’re pregnant and then shutting the door of access to your life for those who have hitherto cared about your journey, supported you or are just plain nosey, isn’t on.

"For me, it attracts far more attention than leaving the door ajar and letting people know you’ve had a girl or a boy.

"Maybe that was the point, says the cynic in me."

OK! has contacted a representative for Alexandra for comment.

During her appearance on Loose Women earlier this month, Alexandra revealed she wanted to keep the details about her baby private after her family had found the impact of her fame "hard".

Ruth Langsford, 62, said to Alexandra: "You've haven't revealed the name or the gender of the baby, tell people why?"

Alexandra took a deep breath and said: "I've never really spoken about this but obviously I come from X Factor and that's a public show and I'm very grateful for the platform, it's made me who I am today."

The star continued with her voice cracking: "I hate getting emotional talking about this but I asked for all this, my family never."

She then had to take a pause as the Loose Women hosts hosts comforted her before continuing: "The impact on them is hard. And I want to protect the baby as much as I can."

Alexandra also gushed over being a mum and revealed that she is the happiest she has ever been.

She said: "Oh gosh, how life has changed. Sleep is a thing of the past. It's changed in a brilliant way. I've never known love like this before. I'm the happiest I've ever been.

"It's overwhelming, you cant put it into worlds. It's the greatest gift in the world. I'm so happy."
