Travis Scott fans are still reeling over the recent tragedy at his Astroworld Festival. A crowd surge left at least eight people dead and over 300 people injured. The “goosebumps” artist has committed to covering the funeral costs for the people who tragically lost their lives. However, some critics question why Scott didn’t do more in the moment. They wonder why Scott continued to perform for nearly 40 minutes rather than stopping the concert altogether.
On Sunday, November 7, Kylie Jenner posted a response to the Astroworld Festival tragedy on her Instagram story. Scott, of course, is expecting his second child with Jenner. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum also attended the concert with their 3-year-old daughter, Stormi.

“Travis and I are broken and devastated,” Jenner shared about Scott. “My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives, were injured or affected in any way by yesterday’s events. And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans and the Houston community. I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing. I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time and will be praying for the healing of everyone who has been impacted.”
Of course, not all fans seem to be taking Jenner’s words at face value, especially as video footage circulates. Videos show Scott continued performing even as he watched a body be carried out of the arena. Critics argue that Scott should’ve stopped his performance sooner, even if he was truly unaware of the fatalities.
The rapper has a stopped concert before over shoes
Fans have even begun to recount times when Scott stopped a concert for far less serious reasons. One video shows the rapper pausing his concert to physically and verbally reprimand a young fan who tried to steal his shoe. In the video, Scott encourages the crowd to attack the fan (after throwing a punch himself) who attempted theft by screaming “f*ck him up.” He then demanded that security remove the fan before booing him and spitting on him.
“He stopped a performance bc a fan tried to steal his shoe but continued to sing while literally watching a body be lifted over heads through the crowd,” one person wrote about Scott on Twitter. “Sickening. The poor families of the people who lost their lives.”
Scott’s fans and critics wonder why it took him nearly 40 minutes to stop performing at Astroworld
It’s understandable that Scott be agitated that someone tried to steal from him as he was performing. However, it makes it more baffling to fans that he continued to perform for so long at the Astroworld concert. If he was willing to halt a concert for more trivial reasons, he could’ve chosen to stop performing when he saw things were getting out of hand. Especially after fans began chanting “stop the show.” If anything, we hope this tragedy is enough to help create safer environments for concerts in the future.
