Did you hear the story about how Oscar producers invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to present Best Picture at the Oscars? For a second, I thought it might actually work out perfectly – Meghan and Harry were in Miami last Thursday and Friday, and maybe they could have flown out to LA from Miami just to do the Oscar circuit. But they did not.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned down an invitation to present an award at this year’s Oscars ceremony, HELLO! can reveal. Harry and Meghan were approached to present the award for Best Picture at this Sunday’s 92nd Academy Awards but according to a source, “they were honoured by the request, but declined the invitation”.

It would have been nice to see them at the Oscars, but you know the British media would have had a collective meltdown and Piers Morgan would probably need to be hospitalized. Besides, they might be trying to cultivate an air of exclusivity, which will help them raise their speaking fees if that’s their end goal. Why show up to the Oscars for free when JP Morgan probably paid them mid to high six-figures?

Meanwhile, we have a date for Harry and Meghan’s brief return to England: they’ll return in March for the Commonwealth Service:

The Queen has called Meghan Markle and Prince Harry back from their glamorous new life to attend a Commonwealth Service, it has been reported today. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Canada after announcing they were quitting as royals and becoming “financially independent”. But the 93-year-old monarch has reportedly asked them to return to the UK next month for the service at Westminster Abbey.

If the couple attend the March 9 event, it will be the first royal engagement for Meghan, 38, since they quit. And the Sunday Times reported the couple will make a round of final official engagements in March before returning back to North America.

Most recently, Harry made his first public appearance at JPMorgan’s Miami billionaire’s summit, where the sixth-in-line to the throne gave a speech – rumoured to have been paid $1million plus expenses for the gig. But the Sunday Times reported the Queen was “remarkably unfazed” by the couple’s new life. She has told friends: “If that’s what they want, if they want to go, we must let them go.”

[From The Sun]

There was one headline suggesting that the Queen “called back” Harry, Meghan AND Archie. Which just reminds me of the fact that Meghan was so sick of England, she left her baby in Canada when she and Harry briefly returned to England in January. If Archie goes to England next month, it will be his first time back in 2020. As for Harry and Meghan returning… I kind of wonder if Meghan will pull out at the last minute or something. We’ll see.
