Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, 36, said he messaged Stacey Dooley, 32, twice before she signed up to the BBC show.
In a joint interview on Radio Times’ Youtube channel last year, Kevin admitted he let Stacey know he was a huge fan of her documentary work on Twitter.
Kevin said at the time: “I’ve been a fan of Stacey for a few years and I’ve watched loads of her documentaries and I think all her work is really good.
“I think it was about a year ago or maybe two years ago, I actually tweeted Stacey after watching one of her documentaries to say, ‘Oh I really enjoyed that. I think it was really important stuff that you did.’
“And she tweeted back saying, ‘Oh, thank you very much.’”
Kevin then turned to Stacey as he reflected on another time the pair wrote to each other on the social media site.
He said to her: “You tweeted about your next project, like what the idea was for it and I tweeted, ‘Oh when is this going to be on? That sounds amazing.’
Kevin went on to say Stacey replied to him to tell him details about the show, at which point he added: “I turned into a little fan girl.”
As Stacey laughed at his admission, he added: “I was telling everyone, ‘Stacey Dooley tweeted me back!’”
“I was really impressed. I like saved it,” he added.
Kevin then said he was excited to learn Stacey had signed up for the show, admitting he asked producers if he could be her partner.
“I’ll be honest, I made no secret of letting the producers know… I was like, ‘If there is any chance I can be partnered with Stacey, that’ll be wicked.’”
At the time of their Twitter exchanges, Stacey was in a relationship with Sam Tucknott, 31, while Kevin was married to his now ex-wife Karen Clifton, 37.
Back in April this year after their split, Stacey’s ex-boyfriend Sam said the Strictly Come Dancing winners are now in a relationship.
In an interview with The Sun after his split from Stacey, he said he had seen a text on Stacey’s phone, which he claimed confirmed they were an item.
Earlier this month, Stacey Dooley finally broke her silence about her romance with Kevin Clifton.
The BBC documentary seemed reluctant to spill details, but said she was “happy” with the professional dancer in an interview with The Guardian.
She said: “Kev and I have agreed not to go into too much detail about our private lives because you can’t really indulge that and then ask for privacy.
“That’s why we’ve turned down interviews that have offered us tens of thousands of pounds.”
She went on: “What I am happy to say is Kev’s amazing, I’m happy, life happens, I’ve got an amazing career and I’m very lucky.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One next month.
