Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has lifted the lid on some of the most scandalous moments she has witnessed during her decades-long career in the glitzy world of dance.
The BBC star explained that inspiration struck her while she was writing her eye-opening autobiography, Behind the Sequins, in 2020.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping, she said: “When I was writing my autobiography, there were a lot of stories from my dance career that I couldn’t use – but when I shared them with people, their jaws hit the ground.
“So I asked the publishers if I could write a fiction book based on these experiences, and they loved the idea,” she revealed.
“I’ve worked with a brilliant writer called Sheila McClure and we’ve covered it all – bullying, backstabbing, dancers having sex in broom cupboards – all these things that I’ve seen, heard or witnessed.

“Don’t be fooled into thinking the dance industry is all baubles, bangles and beads!” she added teasingly.
Elsewhere in the interview, Shirley admitted that she feels “quite emotional” over how busy life has become for her at the age of 62.
Confessing she “never imagined in a million years” that she’d have so many projects on the go at her age, she gushed that “these are the happiest years of my life.”

“What I’d say to anyone in their 50s, 60s and beyond is that we might not have the physique we once had – you might take your knickers off and your bum falls down to your heels, or your boobs fall down to your belly button – but that doesn’t mean we have to stop doing things, does it?” she insisted.
Shirley is returning to the feel-good world of Strictly Come Dancing once more this year, greeting a whole new cohort of celebrities as they brave the dancefloor on the popular BBC One show.
She will also be rejoined by her fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.
