Seth Meyers will host the 2020 PEN America Literary Awards ceremony, Page Six has learned. The event honors “exceptional works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biography, essay, science writing, translation and more published in 2019.”
The ceremony will be on March 2 at the Town Hall — the largest venue yet for the awards. A book source pointed out, “Over the last few years, the awards have evolved from an intimate college auditorium gathering of recognized writers, and their friends and families, to a large-scale public event with dramatic readings from winning works, live music and performances, and presenters including Matthew Broderick and Seth [Meyers].” Attendees have also included Lorne Michaels, Diane Sawyer, Steve Martin and Candice Bergen.
Meyers recently told the New York Times of booking authors on his “Late Night” show, “It’s been a delight discovering what good talk show guests authors make.” PEN America president and author Jennifer Egan called Meyers, “a beloved champion of literature.”
PEN America also revealed on Wednesday morning the finalists for its $75,00 prize, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, including Anne Boyer, Yiyun Li, Ilya Kaminsky, Rion Amilcar Scott and Chris Ware.
