Sarah Ferguson is ready to dish on the royals following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duchess of York went on Good Morning America while promoting her new book A Most Intriguing Lady and expressed to host Juju Chang how she feels more “liberated” now that she doesn’t have to worry over the Queen’s opinion:
“It’s like I’ve taken the mental shackles out of my brain. I don’t know whether it’s the Queen passing on that I now think I can just sort of say openly what I want to say without worrying I’m going to offend somebody.”
Adding on, she said she’s “truly authentic” now:
“I’m really, truly authentic Sarah now.”
Ooh!
As you know, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew and good friend of Princess Diana had a very close relationship with Queen Elizabeth. It’s no surprise she bit her tongue on certain subjects to maintain peace with her while she still ruled. The last thing anyone wants is to upset their former mother-in-law!
Fergie went on to say she wrote her new novel partly based on her own experiences. She even compared herself to the main character, Lady Mary:
“I think that in life, it’s not just royal institution and monarchy, it’s any bureaucracy that tries to allow this redhead to conform. I’m not good at confirming. I believe in the absolute, unequivocal institution of the monarchy.”
Although the 63-year-old is having a blast opening up about her former family members, she still loves and refers to the Queen as her “idol”:
“The most incredible thing about Her Majesty was that she listened. She really was my idol. She really was my legend.”
And as for what happened to Queen Elizabeth’s corgis? No one has to worry, they’re in the care of Fergie:
“The corgis live with me, and we go out, and then they bark into the air, and I think the Queen’s with me when they do.”
Awww
Sarah went on to admit to being totally on King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla‘s team:
“I totally support . … I’ve known them all my life.”
She also offered a bit more praise to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — she just can’t get enough of the former royal family:
“He’s got this lovely wife, and he’s got beautiful children.”
