Radio 1's Arielle Free has been suspended from the radio station following an on-air spat with colleague Charlie Hedges.
Arielle, 36, who has worked at the station since 2019, joined Charlie, 37, on her Dance Anthems Ibiza show on Saturday, which was broadcast live from the Spanish island.
Following a brief introduction Arielle hit out at Charlie's choice in music, telling her: "Can I be honest with you Charlie?… I expected better of you… I don't like this song."
Stunned, Charlie replied: "Oh really?" as Arielle announced that she "hated the song." Following this Charlie shut down Arielle's comments, telling her: "Sorry I’m taking your mic down, it’s my show Arielle, have some respect please."
Following this, a spokesperson for Radio 1 released a statement, which read: "Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously."
Fans listening to the on-air spat were quick to take Twitter to share their thoughts, with one writing: "@ariellefree that was awful, Charlie did well to shut you down. Any other job and you would be fired!"
"Show some respect Arielle Free @BBCR1 Well done @charliehedges" added another.
However, others defended the DJ, with one tweeting: "Canny believe they’ve taken Arielle Free off Radio1 for calling a sh*te song exactly what it is [laughing emoji]"
And another wrote: "@ariellefree has been taken off air for saying she doesn't like a track? I have no idea who she is but seriously @BBC @bbcradio1.
"Can no one there have an opinion? If she said she loved the track you wouldn't have a problem with her opinion then."
While a third argued: "Arielle Free didn't like a song. I can't see what the problem is?"
Prior to joining Radio 1 Arielle co-hosted the official Love Island podcast Love Island: The Morning After before being replaced by ex-Love Islander Indiyah Polack and Made In Chelsea's Sam Thompson.
She joined Radio 1 in 2019, where she began hosting the early weekend breakfast slot, before switching to Monday to Thursday earlier, and has since become the voice of Radio 1’s Dance stream.
While Charlie KISS FM Breakfast Show for 10 years before moving to Radio 1 in 2018, first presenting in the mid-evening slot before moving to the morning section.
Both are yet to comment on their on-air row.
