Drummer and joint-frontman of the hip-hop band The Roots, Questlove is set to make his directorial debut with a documentary centered on “Black Woodstock.”

Titled Summer of Soul (…Or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), the film tells the story of the Harlem Cultural Festival, a series of concerts that took place in Harlem in the Summer of ’69.

The festival featured performances by such renowned artists as Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, the Staple Singers, B.B. King, and more.

The film is slated to premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, which will be held virtually between January 28 and February 3 next year.
