Nigel Farage defends his £1.5million I’m A Celeb fee and admits he couldn’t wait for a pint after leaving camp – as he enjoys Guinness with Aussie locals
Nigel Farage defended his £1.5million I’m A Celebrity fee as he appeared on Monday’s Good Morning Britain after the show’s final.
The politician, 59, came third in the show as Made In Chelsea’s Sam Thompson was crowned the winner and boxer Tony Bellew came second.
In the interview he told how he ‘lives a modest life’ while most of his friends are ‘on the rich list’ and so the huge pay check was a ‘motivator’ for him signing up.
He also told how the first thing he did when he left wasn’t having a shower but drinking a pint as he explained that booze was what he missed most in the Jungle.
It came as he enjoyed a pint of Guinness with a group of Aussie locals on Monday after leaving the show.

In the interview he told how he ‘lives a modest life’ while most of his friends are ‘on the rich list’ and so the huge pay check was a ‘motivator’ for him signing up
Asked by Susanna Reid on the show if the £1.5million contract was a motivator for signing up to I’m A Celeb he replied: ‘The money of course! What’s wrong with that?
‘I gave up a very successful career in the city of London. My friends are on the rich list, and I live a modest life, I gave it up for a career in politics.
‘Is this the biggest pay check I have ever had? Yes, what’s wrong with that.’
On missing booze he added: ‘Many would have thought having a shower was a first priority, but for me it was a drink.
‘Being stuck in there for 23 nights grog free… and then I had a shower!’
After leaving camp he headed straight to the pub – Surfers Paradise Surf Club – in Queensland and had some Guinness while chatting to locals.
Also on GMB he chatted about the comments he made on the show about wanting airtime on the show.
He said: ‘When I talked about the trials, people who said ‘I don’t want to do that, I don’t want to do this’ I said to them you will be 25 per cent of the programme and I was being factually accurate!’

He looked smart in a light blue shirt and beige chinos as he posed with a group of men enjoying beers
He added of why he signed up: ‘To say to the world, I have been the most demonised figure in the last 10 years in politics and I wanted to show my real self.
‘I had no agenda besides that.
Susanna and her co-host Ed Balls then pointed out that fellow politician Matt Hancock also came third on the show last year.
To which he retorted: ‘The idea I can be compared to matt Hancock on any level I don’t appreciate on any level.’
Nigel was greeted by his girlfriend Laure Ferrari after he finished I’m A Celebrity… in third place on Sunday.
The former UKIP leader made it to the final three campmates alongside ex Made In Chelsea star Sam, 31, and retired boxer Tony, 41.
On hearing the news he would be leaving the jungle, Nigel said: ‘Thank you very much,’ and to his fellow finalists he added: ‘Well done, boys.’
After walking across the rope bridge to meet show hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, Nigel left the camp for the very last time to meet his French politician girlfriend Laure, 44, with the moment being the couple’s first public appearance together.
Nigel stood with his arm around Laure as she proudly turned to pose for pictures with her partner.
Nigel has been romantically linked to Laure, a French right wing politician since 2017 after she moved into his £4million Georgian home in Chelsea and was seen taking the bins out.
At the time Nigel dismissed the idea of an affair as ‘crackers’ as he had just announced the separation from his wife of 18 years, Kirsten.
Laure, who is 15 years Farage’s junior, met the politician 10 years earlier in 2007 when she was working as a waitress in Strasbourg.
After the exchange with the then 28-year-old, Nigel appointed her as a parliamentary assistant in charge of environmental issues in the UK – her first job in politics.
In 2017 – right when she moved in with Nigel as a ‘lodger’ – she headed up a Eurosceptic think tank which was accused of illegally diverting £400,000 of public money to UKIP – before the UK General Election and Brexit referendum.

The politician took part in Panic Pit on Sunday night’s show in the hope to win the three finalists a luxury meal
Amid these accusations, the pair were seen enjoying a drink at a London pub together locked in conversation before both discreetly exiting a chauffeur-driven Range Rover.
It was reported that ‘Farage’s attention was only on one woman all night’ but they appeared cautious to be seen together with Farage continually denying claims of a romantic relationship.
During the final, Nigel faced his biggest fear yet as he took on the final Bushtucker Trial of the series during Sunday night’s episode.
The politician took part in Panic Pit in the hope to win the three finalists desserts, himself a drink and a treat.
