‘Chocolate with mushroom and blueberries?’: Masterchef viewers left HORRIFIED as they declare contestant’s dish a ‘step too far!’
Masterchef viewers were left horrofied by contestant Vanessa D’Souza’s unique dish during Tuesday’s episode after the show returned for it’s 19th season.
The challenge saw the buddy chefs create food inspired by their favourite TV cooks, with the anti-piracy manager presenting the judges with a chocolate, mushrooms and blueberry pasta.
Taking a leaf out of fusion chef Ixta Belfrage’s book the concoction received mixed feed back from the panel, only to leave viewers declaring it a ‘step too far’.
‘You have been very daring with your ingredients’ Greg Wallace said while John Torode described the dish as ‘really clever’.
‘Blueberry and chocolate and mushrooms in pasta?’ one flabbergasted viewer asked on Twitter.

With another writing: ‘Blueberries and pasta is a step too far’ and one more declared ‘pudding and pasta’ was a total fail.
And fourth teased: ‘Oh dear Vanessa, only have yourself to blame I’m afraid’.
While a fifth wrote: ‘Blueberries, mushrooms and chocolate are when you make a meal out of what’s left in the fridge’.
‘Chocolate? And blueberry? In a pepper sauce? And Pasta? In one dish?’ another asked incredulously.
However despite the less than glowing feedback Vanessa still made it through to the next round with Johnny being sent home.
The show returned on Monday evening with Greg and co-host John judging the offerings of nine new hopeful amateur chefs.
However things got off to an awkward start when Greg told one of the contestants that is ‘undercooked’ chicken was making him feel ‘uncomfortable’.
Contestant Woei was in a race against time to get his food ready to be served up in under five minutes to present to Gregg and John.
He told the show’s floor manager: ‘Under control, don’t worry, the sauce is done. Hopefully it doesn’t blow John and Gregg away with the heat.’

Despite his finished meal looking delicious, it was quickly rebuffed by Gregg who said he wouldn’t be able to eat it.
Woei served up marinated chicken with tomato and chilli sauce with blue basmati rice and tempura curry leaves.
Things got off to a positive start, as John told him: ‘I love that sauce. Rich and buttery, sweet with tomato and nice chilli heat running through the back of it.
‘The thing with the curry leaf, it’s nice and crispy but because they are curry leaves, they stay quite greasy.’
Next, Gregg initially praised the dish for its ‘light and fluffy rice’, before moving on to the ‘undercooked chicken’.

Admitting he felt ‘uncomfortable’, Gregg explained: ‘I have issues with this chicken. there’s a pink tinge on the insides of my bits of chicken, which is putting me off.
‘They’re undercooked. Not all of it but enough to make me uncomfortable.’
Woei took the comments on the chin, and said: ‘You have to learn how to take criticism as well. Resilience is the most important part of life.’
Woei however did make it through to the next stage of the competition with three other hopefuls.
