MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis, 48, has spoken out to criticise a “disgusting scam” which has appeared online announcing his death. The television personality was forced to deny the advert’s claims, in which an image of Martin is shown alongside the wording: “Breaking news: Farewell Martin Lewis. The UK is in shock.”
In view of his 985,000 Twitter followers, the star shared a screenshot of the scam and explained it links to a fake news website to push bitcoin trader, which isn’t really bitcoin.
Martin wrote: “Sadly, this disgusting scam ad is on many legit websites incl newspapers. (sic) Clearly I’m not dead.
“It links to a fake Daily Mirror site to push bitcoin trader (which isn’t bitcoin, it’s just a scam).”
Martin went on to urge his followers to join him in reporting the advert if they come across it.

In a separate post, Martin revealed the scam had sadly caused concern for his friends and pointed out he had spotted it on the Guardian newspaper website.
The presenter opened up about how the advert had made his loved ones “upset” in response to a fan named Barbara, who asked: “@MartinSLewis In the @guardian Guardian now. Is this genuine? Advert for investing in bitcoin.”
Martin retweeted the Twitter user’s post and responded: “Disgusting scum.
“I’ve already had upset messages from friends today who’ve seen this scam advert trading (wrongly obviously) on the fact I’ve died.
“@guardian usually pretty good at taking it down, but it’s on lots of other sites too.”
“Thanks to Barbara and all who’ve notified me,” the star gratefully concluded.
Fans took to the comments section of Martin’s post to share their thoughts on the incident.

Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Martin said: “I’ve just found out there’s another one of those adverts running saying I’m dead.
“They’re scam adverts using the fact that I have died, which is just horrendous.”
Martin then light-heartedly brushed off the claims, as he continued: “I clearly haven’t, obviously.
“But just to say if you see it, please report it because a lot of people are getting disturbed by it.”
“We all need to act together to try and stop these horrendous scammers,” he insisted.
