Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler began dating in 2010, and the couple tie the knot in 2013. However, their relationship came to an end in 2020 after 10 years together.
Like many people who went through breakups, Cavallari had some moments of doubts about her decision to split with Cutler. She recently talked about this and shared what finally made her realize the divorce was the right decision for her family.
Why did Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler divorce?
When Cavallari announced her divorce in April 2020, she revealed on Instagram that she and Cutler were simply “growing apart.”
A source also told People, “Kristin and Jay’s split had absolutely nothing to do with the cheating rumors, and they’re simply in different places. She has so much on her plate, with her brands and with the show. Jay is not as interested in all of that. She’s so passionate about her work and they couldn’t relate to each other as much. So it pulled them apart.”
Meanwhile, Hollywood Life reported that, according to court documents, Cavallari cited “inappropriate marital conduct” in addition to “irreconcilable differences” as grounds for divorce.
Kristin Cavallari reveals what made her get closure after the divorce
Cavallari recently opened up about the divorce on the podcast Off the Vine. She shared that she and Cutler did try to date sometime after their breakup, especially because she had some doubts.
“There’s been times over the last 18 months where I’m like, ‘Is this the right decision?’” Cavallari admitted (via Yahoo). “Jay and I actually went on a couple dates — like months and months and months ago.”
Instead of making her want to get back with Cutler, those dates only confirmed to Cavallari that the divorce was the right decision.
“I was like … It’s not there for me anymore,” Cavallari explained.
She also added, “The thing with Jay is, we aren’t getting our divorce because of love lost, which made it really challenging because we were crazy about each other. I just decided I didn’t want to be in a toxic relationship anymore and I had to break it off. But that’s made it hard and made me sit here and question it for a few months. But then going back and dating him a little bit made me reaffirm it like, ‘No, I know that I’m doing the right decision.’”
Kristin Cavallari wants to get married again in the future
Although her first marriage did not end in the way she had hoped, Cavallari is still optimistic about falling in love again. On the podcast Scrubbing In back in May 2021, she revealed that she can see herself getting remarried in the future.
“I definitely believe in marriage, and I think that I will [remarry], eventually,” she said.
However, Cavallari does not believe that will happen anytime soon. She added, “The thought of getting married right now, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God,’ it makes me cringe. But yes, I still very much believe in it and I do think that I’ll meet someone eventually.”
