Kate Middleton has nailed summer chic as she and husband Prince William arrived at The Fitzwilliam Museum.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who recently celebrated William's 40th birthday, were photographed arriving at the museum on Thursday 23 June.

Part of The University of Cambridge, Kate and William were seen with wide smiles plastered across their faces as they walked inside.

Kate, also 40, looked incredible in a multicoloured and patterned midi dress, which she paired with a light blue coat.

Styling her brunette mane down, Kate appeared to wear a modest amount of make up – with some smokey eyeshadow and mascara and a pink lip.

Meanwhile, William looked dapper in a dark blue suit with a white shirt for the outing.

The couple were there to visit a painted portrait of themselves as it was revealed to the public for the first time.

Painted by Jamie Coreth, the piece was commissioned in 2021 by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund as a gift.

The painting shows the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge standing side-by-side as Kate wears a stunning emerald green dress – a colour the royal has been seen wearing on several occasions.

Paired with the dress is what appears to be some Manolo Blahnik heels and a silver pear brooch.

Meanwhile, William is wearing a black two-piece suit paired with a teal blue tie to perfectly complement Kate’s beautiful dress.

The two royals look off into the distance in true portrait style.

Members of the public will be able to view the portrait at the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum for an initial period of three years, after which the artwork will be exhibited in other community spaces and galleries around Cambridgeshire.

The painting will also be loaned to the National Portrait Gallery for a short time in 2023 to mark the Gallery’s reopening.

During their visit, Their Royal Highnesses met with Jamie Coreth, supporters of the project, and Lady Sibyl Marshall – the wife of the late Sir Michael Marshall, who originally proposed the idea to create the portrait.

Discussing his undeniably impeccable work, Jamie said of the portrait: "It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.

“As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives.

"The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating."
