If you’re a fan of Justin Bieber, you’re fully aware that there’s a bit of a music drought going on at the moment.
Bieber basically disappeared from the music world after releasing his fourth album, Purpose, on Nov. 13, 2015. Aside from a few features here and there, he’s mostly been focusing on his health, faith, and recent marriage to Hailey Baldwin. But now, it appears that Bieber is (finally) ready to dive back into his career.
In a new social media post, the “Hold Tight” singer vowed to release new music before Christmas — but there’s a catch. He’ll only put out the tunes under this one condition.
A closer look at Bieber’s Instagram post
On the evening of Oct. 27, the “Love Yourself” crooner posted a note to Instagram to tease the highly-anticipated follow-up to his last album.
“If this gets 20 million likes,” read the note, “Justin Bieber will release an album before Christmas.”
“Share it, like it, post in your story, I gotta see the demand ;),” he captioned the post. “Love you guys pumped for it! I’m almost done but your support will make me move faster.”
It may sound like a challenge, but, as of writing, the post has already received nearly 7 million likes.
Fans also flocked to the comment section to share their reactions, with stars like DJ Khaled and Jaden Smith urging him to release the album.
Bieber didn’t share what kind of project it will be, but the timing suggests that it might be another Christmas album.
In 2011, he released his first holiday record, Under the Mistletoe, which featured renditions of classic songs such as “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Drummer Boy,” and “Silent Night.” Bieber even joined forces with Mariah Carey for a duet of her hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Bieber recently gave fans a sample of new music
On Oct. 10, Bieber posted snippets to social media of an unreleased remix to 50 Cent’s 2003 song, “Many Men.” In the track, Bieber raps about his break from music, his relationship with his wife, and more.
“Took a
“My style is impeccable / My wife, yeah, I put her on a pedestal,” Bieber continues. “My life is like a movie, The Incredibles.”
He also mentions his years-long battle with depression, for which he received treatment in February.
“They put me on some medicine / Never thought that my depression would depend on it / I resented it,” he raps. “Going hard, running on adrenaline / Been a victim of the system, I’m a Christian with a vision, I’m a gentleman.”
But Bieber later pointed out that he did not plan on putting the song on any upcoming project. He said he was “just messing around while Hailey’s doing [some] video stuff in the other room..”
We’ll just have to wait and see what lands on his fifth album.
