American rock band Journey recently released their first song in a decade, “The Way We Used To Be.” The last piece of music from Journey was the 2011 album, Eclipse.
“The Way We Used To Be” also marks the debut of Journey’s new lineup.
The band’s current members include drummer Narada Michael Walden, bassist Randy Jackson, and keyboardist Jason Derlatka in addition to returning members Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Arnel Pineda.
Schon, Journey’s co-founder and guitarist, said the song was written during the pandemic.
“Utilizing my time and trying to keep fans in touch I started posting many jams and loops I created very quickly most every day. On ‘The Way We Used To Be’ I laid down the keyboard loop with over-dubbed rhythm and a little blues lead guitar and sent to Jonathan,” Schon said in a statement.
He added, “He sent it back very shortly after with demo vocals and lyrics and I said to myself with a smile, ‘We’ve still got it!'”
The music video for “The Way We Used To Be” was directed and produced by Andrew Seth Cohen and Ryan Kieffer.
