Amber Heard’s team went on the defense, releasing a statement ahead of Kate Moss’s testimony in the Johnny Depp defamation trial.
Earlier in the trial, Heard implied that Depp had pushed Moss down a staircase. Moss was called to the stand to either support or deny the implication. Moss said Depp never pushed her down the stairs. Or abused her during their three-year relationship in the mid-’90s.
Amber Heard’s team says while Johnny didn’t abuse Kate, it doesn’t mean he didn’t abuse Amber
In an attempt to do damage control, Heard’s PR team sent a statement to Showbiz Cheat Sheet from a “source close to Amber Heard.”
“So Johnny Depp didn’t abuse Kate Moss. That makes him one for two in the abuse column,” according to the source. “But, to date, he’s zero for one in the courtroom on the central issue in this case back when he lost the same exact case in England. And when the jury deliberates over the singular issue in this case — whether Amber Heard can exercise her right of Freedom of Speech — he’ll be one for two, no matter how much his lawyers try to distract and divert the jury’s attention.”
Kate Moss testified Johnny Depp did not push her down the stairs
Moss testified that Depp actually came to her aid when she fell down a set of stairs. “We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did,” she recalled (via People). “There had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back. I screamed because I didn’t know what happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”
She emphasized, “He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.”
Heard’s attorneys did not cross-examine Moss. Moss’s testimony directly contradicted Heard’s suggestion that Depp was violent. Earlier in the trial, Heard recalled an instance in 2015 when her sister Whitney Henriquez tried to prevent abuse from Depp.
“[Whitney’s] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her,” Heard said. “I don’t hesitate, I don’t wait — I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs. And I swung at him.”
Will Johnny Depp restore his reputation?
This isn’t the first time Heard summoned the instance with Moss, according to People. She referenced it during Depp’s 2020 lawsuit against a British tabloid when the publication referred to him as a “wife-beater.” The tabloid ran with the reference after Heard published an op-ed in The Washington Post about being abused. She did not name Depp in the article but he claims it destroyed his career and took a toll on his family.
Depp sued the tabloid and lost. He is currently suing Heard for $50 million. Showbiz Cheat Sheet spoke with podcast host Danielle Dell’Olio who sat in the Depp vs. Heard courtroom during the initial weeks and believes Depp will emerge with his reputation restored. “So [in the] beginning no idea who was going to win or lose,” she said. “And Johnny even said he wasn’t doing it for the money. He wasn’t doing it for anything else. He just wanted his truth out there. And for people that were domestic violence survivors to know that they’ve been lied to, essentially because Amber’s claiming she’s an activist.”
“Now he’s won in the court of public opinion. And I feel very vindicated,” Dell’Olio added. “I have been screaming about this for two years now, and a lot of people now are like, oh my gosh, I didn’t realize all this stuff was going on. I can’t believe she did this to him.”
