Harry Redknapp was reminiscing about when his sons first started out in football in a recent chat. Both Jamie Redknapp and Mark Redknapp were on their way to stardom when the latter suffered a bad injury.
Mark began his football career as a teenager along with his brother Jamie.
However, despite being on the books at AFC Bournemouth at 18, he didn’t pursue the career.
This was because he suffered a serious ankle injury playing the game.
Harry recalled the time when he was a guest on Olly Murs’ Soccer Aid podcast recently.
He said: “Well Mark signed for Bournemouth but he broke his ankle so badly.
“It was just terrible really, they were going to fuse it.”
Mark did go on to play for several non-league clubs following his injury.
Harry continued: “Then he came back and started playing non-league for Dorchester Town and Southern League.
“But couldn’t walk for a week after he played, it was crazy.”
Following his career in football, he began work as a model and a property developer.
As well as this, his children have begun football training, which is something Harry has proudly spoken about.
Harry’s other son Jamie enjoyed a stellar professional football career.
He played for Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton as well as having 17 England caps.
Following his professional career, Jamie is now a pundit presenting on Sky Sports.
Harry will be returning to the latest edition of Soccer Aid later this year.
He’ll be back managing the Rest of the World squad in the new competition.
Some of the celebrities and professional athletes already locked in for his team include Usain Bolt, Roman Kemp, Ore Oduba and Yungblud.
Wayne Rooney, James Arthur and Paddy McGuinness will be playing for the England team.
This will be managed by Sven-Göran Eriksson with help from Robbie Williams.
Alex Scott and Dermot O’Leary will present the action with Maya Jama backstage.
