I’m A Celeb South Africa: ‘He’s definitely putting this on!’ Paul Burrell has ANOTHER meltdown as he tackles his first trial… but unimpressed fans accuse ‘ridiculous’ star of ‘overacting’
Paul Burrell threw another bushtucker trial meltdown as he returned to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here on Monday night, to the dismay of viewers.
The former royal butler, 64, mirrored his horrified expressions from 19 years ago while getting stuck into a challenge in the new All Stars series in South Africa.
Taking up his position in the Hell Holes task, Paul joked: ‘How lovely for the first challenge to be putting my hand in a hole.’
But within seconds, he was squealing and shrieking after realising there were snakes inside – much to the annoyance of supermodel Janice Dickinson.
When he cried, ‘It’s gonna bite me,’ the TV personality hit back with, ‘If it doesn’t bite you, I will… shut up and look for the key!’

Oh dear! Within seconds, he was squealing and shrieking after realising there were snakes inside – much to the annoyance of supermodel Janice Dickinson
Feud: When he cried, ‘It’s gonna bite me,’ the TV personality hit back with, ‘If it doesn’t bite you, I will… shut up and look for the key!’
But viewers of the programme were left less than impressed by Paul’s antics, as they took to Twitter to accuse him of ‘being ridiculous’ and ‘overacting’.
One wrote, ‘Why’s Paul Burrell trying to recreate his 2004 meme. It was funny when it was authentic but now it’s just forced 😴 #ImACeleb.’
Others added, ‘Paul burrell is so overacting this we’ve seen this act before,’ and, ‘Paul Burrell is ridiculous #ImACeleb.’
Two more chimed in with, ‘Paul burrell is defo putting this on #ImACeleb,’ as well as, ‘What an actor Paul Burrell is #ImACeleb.’
Another concluded, ‘Paul Burrell give that man an Oscar #imaceleb.’
I’m A Celebrity fans all had the same complaint as the South African spin-off hit ITV viewers screens, branding it ‘wrong’.
The show was pre-recorded in Kruger National Park last year, with the first episode airing on Monday.
For the first time in 21 years, the show, which kicks off on Monday and features an all-star cast, will not end with a Jungle King or Queen – instead having a ‘Legend’.
Angry: But viewers of the programme were left less than impressed by Paul’s antics, as they took to Twitter to accuse him of ‘being ridiculous’ and ‘overacting’
The lack of public vote means the stars, including Carol Vorderman, Helen Flanagan and Amir Khan, will compete against each other, thus will not be heading for royal status – instead just battling between each other.
A statement from ITV read: ‘With no public vote, they will be competing against each other in a battle to become the first ever ‘I’m A Celebrity Legend’.’
Viewers took to Twitter to express their frustration over the new format, with one penning: ‘When it’s all pre-recorded! Not live. Not watching’
Another said: ‘I’m looking forward to the I’m A Celeb All Stars show but it’s a shame that it’s not live and we can’t vote with it being pre recorded’
A third wrote: ‘I don’t like how it’s all pre-recorded! If Love Island can do it anyone can!’
One user added: ‘Really can’t see the point of this I’m A Celeb in South Africa if it’s all pre-recorded, no voting – just a swizz really, probably know who wins if you search online as well I guess’
Someone penned: ‘Doesn’t quite feel the same seeing as it was recorded last September’
As well as news of the winners, it has also been reported that two latecomers will join the cast – in the form of winners Georgia Toffolo and Joe Swash.
Celebs: The All Stars season will see Shaun Ryder, Helen Flanagan, Phil Tufnell, Jordan Banjo, Carol Vorderman, Paul Burrell, Amir Khan, Janice and Fatima Whitbread return to the jungle
An insider told The Mirror: ‘There will still be a winner of the show but they won’t be crowned in quite the same way…
‘There is no public vote and also they have all competed before, so bosses decided they couldn’t really be crowned king or queen. Instead one celeb will get legendary status.’
The All Stars series will air for three weeks on weekdays, with the final week clashing with the Eurovision semi-finals on Tuesday May 9 and Thursday 11.
Posting on Twitter the ITV Press Centre wrote: ‘Confirmed: I’m A Celebrity…South Africa starts Monday 24 April at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.’

They will be joined by the late Princess Diana’s former butler Paul, Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, 30, Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder, 60, retired javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread, 62, and former English international cricketer Phil Tufnell, 56.
