Nicki Minaj recently updated her fans about how she’s raising her 1-month-old son with her husband, Kenneth Petty.
Minaj and Petty welcomed their baby boy in September 2020. Since then, many of her fans have noticed Minaj isn’t as vocal on social media as she once was. Minaj has used social media, specifically her Twitter account, to connect with her diehard fans since her career catapulted in 2009.
Nicki Minaj gives birth to her first child
In July 2020, Minaj announced she was pregnant via Instagram. The “Starships” rapper was posted for the camera wearing a yellow wig and a bikini filled with flower decals. Minaj looked toward the camera as she held her baby bump. The news of Minaj’s pregnancy came several months after she announced that she and Petty had tied the knot. Minaj and Petty reconnected after they dated in high school before Minaj’s career took off.
After waiting several weeks after her son’s birth, Minaj gave her fans a glimpse of how her baby boy looks via Instagram. Minaj posted a photo of her baby’s foot as she held it in the air.
“Happy Anniversary, my love,” Minaj captioned the picture.
Shortly after posting, Minaj received well-wishes from celebrities like Kim Kardashian West, La La Anthony, and Beyoncé. Several of Minaj’s fans also congratulated her on becoming a mother underneath her photo.
“Congratulations, Queen! He’s so lucky to have you as a mama,” one fan wrote.
“What an adorable little foot!!!” another exclaimed.
“Congrats, Luv. There’s nothing like it. So happy for you,” a third commenter shared.
Nicki Minaj says she isn’t ready to hire a nanny for her newborn son yet
Minaj decided to interact with her fans, who she affectionately calls “Barbz,” in November 2020. One of her fans spoke about how Minaj isn’t on Twitter since she became a new mom. The fan shared that Minaj should hire a nanny to help with her son.
After seeing the tweet, Minaj replied to the post with her tweet explaining her current parenting system. Minaj confirmed she hadn’t hired anyone else to take care of her son and said it was a big responsibility.
“Everyone tells me that. Lol. I rlly should get one. Difficult decision tho,” Minaj replied.
Minaj also wrote another tweet to explain why she isn’t as active on social media. She said her son wants her all to himself, and Minaj rarely has time for anything else.
“Last night, I tried to tweet while I was feeding him. He looked @ me & said ‘absolutely TF NOT,’” Minaj wrote. “He wants his undivided attention, chile.”
Nicki Minaj is working on music and recently released a video
Although Minaj hasn’t been as vocal on social media as before she gave birth to her son, her music career hasn’t seemed to slow down. In November 2020, Minaj shared several Instagram clips from a music video with Youngboy Never Broke Again for a song called “What That Speed Bout?!” Minaj has a feature on the track and shared that she was pregnant with her son while she shot the video.
Minaj’s video with Youngboy Never Broke Again came over a year after she declared she planned to retire from the music industry in September 2019. Minaj shared on Instagram that she wanted to focus on Petty and their growing family. However, Minaj later clarified the statement to Billboard and said she isn’t ready to leave her music career behind just yet.
“I love music and interacting with fans, so I can’t really see taking myself completely away. But I want to be open to other possibilities in my life,” Minaj said. “I do believe it is important to become a woman outside of the magnifying glass. I have to make sure that I’m well-rounded as a human being.”
