Helen Skelton’s ex Richie Myler has hit back at “derogatory and disgusting” comments aimed at him and his family.

Richie, 33, told fans he had been trolled relentlessly by the same individuals over the past year, which the police are now investigating.

Hitting out on his Instagram Story, he wrote: “For over 12 months there has been several individuals who have felt the need to write derogatory and disgusting comments about me and my family on this awful website.

“This is not just people having an opinion on somebody else’s life choices, these 4,000 comments (all by the same six or seven accounts) are harmful and sickening.

“Three accounts have been successfully uncovered, and thanks to North Yorkshire Police, which is taking this very seriously, are now been fully investigated as an open case.”

The rugby player went on to urge anyone with information to let him or the police force know.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Instagram for comment.

Richie became the target of abusive messages following his split from Helen last year.

In April 2022, the presenter shocked fans by saying she was “very sad” to announce the pair were no longer together.

She added: “He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.”

Their break-up came just four months after the birth of their third child together, a daughter named Elsie.

The pair tied the knot back in 2013 at Kirkby at Thore’s St Michael’s Church in her childhood village Cumbria.

They later welcomed sons Ernie, now eight and Louis, six.

Richie has since moved on to another relationship and has a baby daughter named Olivia.

Helen has addressed more details about their break-up in her new book In My Stride.

In an excerpt obtained by The Sun, she wrote: “I was in shock.

“I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliche, but that was me.”

On reflection, Helen added she may have missed or “ignored” signs that it wasn’t working, having been “consumed” by their children, work, and a house project.

She went on to say she had no energy to date and was focusing on her career and children.
