Gordon and Jack Ramsay argue over scrambled eggs while Tom Daley reflects on his first year as a dad… as famous father/son duos pose for GQ

A series of famous dads and their sons are taking part in a campaign for GQ ahead of Father’s Day 2019, to encourage men to connect with their families and talk candidly about male cancer.

The likes of Gordon Ramsay and Tom Daley have been profiled in support of Father and Son Day, a month-long campaign which is taking place through June.

From Gordon and his 19-year-old son Jack, to Tom and his 11-month old baby Robert [named after Tom’s own late father who died in 2011 from a brain tumor] the feature profiles 18 celebs and the men closest to them.

A day for dads: A series of famous dads and their sons are taking part in a campaign for GQ ahead of Father’s Day 2019, to encourage men to connect with their families and talk candidly about male cancer [Tom Daley, Dustin Lance Black and their son Robbie Ray are pictured]

Tom is interviewed alongside his screenwriter husband, Dustin Lance Black, who explain that their son Robbie Ray has teeth coming through and wants them ‘to know about it every 20 minutes’.

Asked whether they take it in turns to get up in the night, the answer from Dustin is simple: ‘No.’

‘It depends…’ comes Tom’s reply, leading to a debate between the pair.

The pair manage to agree on the wonder that comes with milestones, however – leading to perhaps a TMI admission.

Tossed salads or scrambled eggs? Gordon and Jack bicker over healthy living and scrambled eggs in their profile

The gloves are off: Boxer Anthony Joshua is featured, and asserts that he doesn’t want his son Joseph, two, to follow in his footsteps when it comes to hitting the ring

‘I thought I was going to be terrified of poo,’ says Dustin. ‘Then that first one came out, perfectly formed.

‘I was like, “Tom, that’s the most perfect poo I’ve ever seen.”‘

Gordon and Jack bicker over healthy living and scrambled eggs in their profile.

‘They’re all going f**king healthy… I had avocado with poached eggs!’ the famously cranky chef says, to which son Jack shakes his head.

‘Would you like to become a chef?’ Gordon challenges Jack. ‘How good are you at scrambled eggs?’

Close: Martin Kemp and his son Roman are interviewed at the Royal Albert Hall

Michelin-starred: Chef Tom Kerridge is asked whether he plans to teach his son, three-year-old Acey, to cook – but reveals that he’s already started

Jack retorts: ‘I like them diner style… I like to be able to stab my eggs and pick them up.’

It’s Gordon’s turn to shake his head in disgust.

Martin Kemp and his son Roman are interviewed at the Royal Albert Hall.

‘Being 16, in Spandau Ballet, then acting, then being hit by two brain tumours – coming out of that and still being one of the nicest guys in this industry? That’s something I feel I can never live up to,’ Roman says.

‘I’m sure you can. There’s one bit you want to give a miss, though,’ says Martin, an arm around his DJ son, 26.

Boxer Anthony Joshua is featured, and asserts that he doesn’t want his son Joseph, two, to follow in his footsteps when it comes to hitting the ring.

‘No. It’s too hard. It’s a dangerous sport. You’re not going to be a boxing star without going through pain,’ he says.

Of his own father, who lived in Nigeria when he was growing up, Anthony says: ‘He was supportive in his own way. He wasn’t going to rush to come to me. I get that and I will always respect my dad.’

Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge is asked whether he plans to teach his son, three-year-old Acey, to cook – but reveals that he’s already started.

‘Acey is very good at scrambled eggs,’ he says. ‘And he has taught me the names of all the characters on Paw Patrol.’

As part of the initiative, British GQ spoke to its founders, Daniel Marks and Jack Dyson, about their personal stories of survival and loss too.
