Gary Lineker is currently one of the favourites to be the voice behind Doughnuts on The Masked Singer. Over the course of the mystery show several clues have led viewers to believe the Match of the Day presenter is behind the mask, including nods to both football and crisps.

Doughnuts has performed renditions of Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, the Spice Girls’ Spice Up Your Life and Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline.

The fan favourite has described themselves as “extra speedy” and explained that aside from “being sweet, I’ve also been savoury”, as viewers were shown pick and mix football sweets.

Many viewers are convinced Gary is the mystery celeb behind Doughnuts and have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Amy tweeted: “Still going with Gary Lineker for Doughnuts.”

Marion added: “Doughnuts is Gary Lineker.”

And Nick Echoed: “Gonna have to stick with Gary Lineker for Doughnuts.”

Now, Gary has addressed speculation in view of his 8.3 million Twitter followers.

The former footballer wrote: “Ok I admit it, It’s not me.

“But if it somehow is without me knowing, I promise that I’ll ambush [Jonathan Ross] and spurt my jam all over his face. #MaskedSingerUK.”

With Gary seemingly off the table, it is still likely a professional footballer is behind the mask.

The runaway favourite, according to Betfair, is Michael Owen with odds of 1/4.

Second most likely is fellow former Liverpool player, Robbie Fowler, with 6/1.

Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand have also been suggested with odds of 14/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Chatting exclusively to Express.co.uk, vocal coach Moz Ali of The Wirral Music Tuition analysed Doughnuts’ voice.

He remarked: “Everyone’s deduced he’s a sports person…I’m on side with that as well.

“But, I don’t know if that’s more because I really want it to be Michael Owen.”

Moz added that Doughnuts is “definitely not a professional singer” but praised them for their stage presence and delivering a performance that “gets the whole crowd involved”.

Tonight, there will be a double elimination following performances from Doughnuts, Firework, Mushroom, Panda, Robobunny, Rockhopper and Traffic Cone.

The Masked Singer airs Saturday’s at 7pm on ITV.
