The 64-year-old Loose Women panellist, who is always vocal on her social media accounts, again divided opinion with a tweet to her 535,000 followers. Addressing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Denise Welch wrote: “God I bet Harry and Meghan can’t wait to be sat in the Virgin Atlantic lounge on Tuesday morning!!!!”
The tweet came a day before the Queen’s State Funeral, which is taking place today, on Monday, September 19 at Westminster Abbey.
Since, the star’s tweet has gained 12,000 likes on the social media platform, with many taking to the comments section to share their opinion.
Many jumped to the defence of Meghan and Harry, which Denise herself has continually done in the past.
User @l_tnoyce wrote: “The hatred towards them is disgusting! People have short memories x.”
And @Sichovin added: “She will need a lot of self care when she gets back home. A lot of sleep and meditation and company with positive ppl only. (sic)
“She needs to replenish her positive energy. I’m sure she’ll be running on empty by tomorrow.”
And @simon_proctor shared: “Whatever they do, it’ll never be right for the Press.
“But they came and did their duty honouring the Queen. And I think the majority of people appreciate that and are glad to see them.”
Others commented on their extended absence away from their two children Archie and Lilibet and the royal couple wanting to reunite with their family in the US.
User @jennymeindesign tweeted: “They must be so missing their adorable Lilibet and Archie and cannot wait to be reunited with them for their unconditional love! I would.”
Denise has commented in the past about her concerns for Meghan’s mental health, something which drove the royal couple to step back from official duties in the first place.
In a tweet on September 14, Denise shared: “I hope Meghan can cope mentally with this as if she can’t some people will have a lot to answer for. Mental pressure can lead to mental illness & I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”
This came shortly after TalkTV broadcaster Piers Morgan hit out at Meghan Markle once again.
In an article, Piers wrote: “What part of Harry’s treatment of his father in the past few years has shown any of these things?
“Instead, he’s shown Charles withering accusatory contempt, and allowed his wife to constantly trash his family and everything they represent, in a way that has attracted endless negative global headlines.”
The title of the New York Post opinion piece read: “Prince Harry should dump his salacious tell-all and rein in Meghan Markle if he wants to honour King Charles, writes Piers Morgan.”
Furious at the treatment of Meghan in the press, Denise reacted to a tweet with the same headline, writing: “‘Rein in’????? F*** off you disgusting people.”
Commentary about the royal family has been rife in the light of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Eleven days after the announcement, the state funeral has begun with a service at Westminster Abbey, cortege and military procession across London, before a family ceremony is held at a chapel in Windsor Castle.
The Queen will be buried at 19:25 BST in a private family service.
She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the King George VI memorial chapel, inside St George’s Chapel. The monarch’s marble slab will be engraved ELIZABETH II 1926-2022.
