When one of your best friends is a professional wedding singer, a performance is practically a given. And former TOWIE star Danielle Armstrong reveals to us that Arg [James Argent] was “itching” to get up on the mic when she tied the knot to her childhood sweetheart Tom recently. However, all did not go go according to plan as there was another performer among Danielle and Tom’s 100 guests!
Danielle explains: “I think Arg was itching to get up on the mic, but he didn’t,” Danielle tells us. “Jess did, though. She got up and sang.”
On the day, the couple were joined by Danielle’s TOWIE co-stars, including Ferne and her fiancé Lorri Haines, Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet, James Argent, and Jess Wright and her husband William Lee-Kemp.
Danielle explains that her part in the long running Essex based reality TV show was a big part of her life, therefore it was only fitting that she wed surrounded by her co-stars.
“TOWIE was such a big part of my life. Us girls spent so much time together.”
Danielle also sweetly tells OK! about the touching moment that she and her girls shared on the dance floor at her big day. “It was me, Ferne and Jess on the dance floor and Jess turned around and said, ‘We finally got what we deserved, girls.’ We were cuddling each other, it was so special.”
Danielle and Tom tied the knot at Hertfordshire’s Ashridge House but their picture perfect day was not without a mishap or two! At one point their two year old daughter Orla – who acted as a flower girl for her mummy and daddy – had a meltdown.
Danielle explains: “Everything was going smoothly then things got a bit chaotic half an hour before the ceremony. Everyone was in hair and make-up and having champagne, and then Orla all of a sudden started crying because she was hungry and wanted biscuits. It was coming up to her nap time, but we were like, ‘She’s just going to have to get through it!’”
And get through it she did as Danielle tells us that Orla was “as good as gold” for the rest of the day.
Another hair raising moment saw Danielle’s breathtaking veil get caught on some of the LED tealights the couple had placed in the venue.
Danielle says: “We had lots of LED candles in glasses, which were all placed along the stairs and they looked beautiful. My veil was so heavy and I could feel it was pulling. As I turned to face Tom, the veil got caught on the step and knocked over the candles. There was just a shatter of glass. Apparently smashing glasses is meant to be good luck, so at least there’s that!
While some brides would be upset, Danielle has a good sense of humour about the mishap! “I could hear everyone gasping. But I just laughed it off. It was all good. It actually broke the ice a little bit.”
Meanwhile, Tom says: “I could see it happening. I was looking up at Danielle and I saw the veil getting caught. I was trying to let her know but she couldn’t hear me.”
