White Lines star Daniel Mays has been held up at home with his wife Louise and the couple’s two children following the coronavirus pandemic. The Line of Duty actor admitted the first few weeks of lockdown had been “full on” for the family.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Daniel revealed his eldest son was still able to go ahead with his mock exams, despite schools being closed across the country back in March.
Daniel explained: “It was pretty tricky because my poor wife literally broke her leg on Mother’s Day which was the Sunday before all of the schools shut down.
“She literally had this horrific freak accident where she fell down a grass bank while we were out walking.”
Discussing life in lockdown, the White Lines actor said it hit him like a “tidal wave” juggling everything.
“Lockdown for the first couple of weeks was pretty full on,” Daniel explained.
“I was looking after my wife, homeschooling my daughter. My son was actually taking his mock exams that went ahead.”
He added: “He took them in the attic.”
The actor also discussed homeschooling and admitted it certainly has had its challenges.
Daniel commented: “My son is 14 and both my kids are schooling online. They’re doing Google classroom. But my son takes himself up to the loft and is doing it himself. He can take care of himself.
“It’s my seven-year-old, [the] biggest challenge is to get her to sit down. She is just an amazing time waster. She’ll drag it out and make excuses why she can’t do it.”
Elsewhere, Daniel recently appeared in his first Netflix series for the highly-anticipated White Lines, which is set on the party island of Ibiza.
The actor plays the role of Marcus – an island DJ who is on a downward spiral.
Speaking about the fan reaction, he remarked: “It’s gone through the roof.
“I’ve never done a Netflix show before. It’s slightly overwhelming the amount of people you can reach on Netflix and White Lines definitely did that.”
Meanwhile, he may appear in Strictly Come Dancing in the near future after the Line of Duty actor revealed he was asked to take part in the Christmas special.
The TV star explained he may make an appearance on the dance competition in the future.
He said: “I got asked to do the Christmas version of Strictly and I was like ‘Woah’.
“But I was like if I do [Strictly] I’ll have to do the whole series.”
Despite turning down the Christmas special, Daniel explained he is “too busy” to consider taking part in the BBC series.
He commented: “Not yet. I’m too busy with acting and stuff.”
The White Lines actor also revealed that Strictly is a firm favourite in the Mays household.
Daniel said: “Strictly is a firm favourite in our household. We’re definitely in the Strictly camp as opposed to X Factor.”
