Dan revealed on Twitter this weekend he had a minor health problem. The issue appeared to be a mild infection of the eyelid, as an image he shared showed the skin above his eye slightly swollen. Revealing the unfortunate news Dan wrote at the time: “Woke up this morning with this beauty.”

He followed those words with a small ‘eye’ emoji symbol.

He continued: “Spending #FathersDay morning in a walk-in centre.

“Might have to borrow Madonna’s eye-patch for #BBCBreakfast tomorrow.”

Dan accompanied the jovial message with the tongue-in-cheek hashtag: “#RedEyeOfDoom.”

Now the BBC favourite has given an update on his condition.

Tweeting, the TV presenter said: “Thank you for your eye-based concern.

“It’s not too painful.

“I haven’t been in a fight and yes… I did think that the flamingo shirt would deflect attention from it.

“It hasn’t worked.”

Fans were quick to chip in after the update.

One quipped: “Thankfully we don’t watch @BBCBreakfast for your sartorial elegance, but that pyjama-top shirt and funereal tie did make us wonder if there’d been a power cut when you got dressed.

“And then we realised there was something wrong with your eyesight. Best wishes.”

Dan replied “thanks” to the Twitter user followed by a crying-with-laugher emoji symbol.

Someone else said: “Just love your sense of humour. Hilarious!

“Glad to see you didn’t call in sick because of it.

“Hope it goes away soon, for your sake. I’m loving the flamingo shirt!”

Another Twitter fan wrote: “I was half expecting to see you sporting a pirate’s eye patch.

“That would’ve been a match for Louise’s shirt.”

Popular TV star Dan also gave a heartwarming Father’s Tribute to fellow TV man Simon Thomas on Sunday.

He said: “Big ‘thank you’ to @SimonThomasSky & his son Ethan for sending me this for #FathersDay.

“Simon asked me to write the foreword for this incredible tome and it really is a heartbreaking but amazing book #LoveInterrupted.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One at 6am.
