Chesney Hawkes has joked that he’s the reason England won their World Cup clash against Wales on Tuesday night – after he sang at half time.
The One and Only hitmaker, 51, said Gareth Southgate’s boys now even want him as their mascot before gushing that performing at the sporting event was ‘one of the best moments of his entire life’.
England sailed to a 3-0 victory in Qatar but all three goals – two from Marcus Rashford and one from Phil Foden – happened after Chesney’s halftime show which is a fact he is now cheekily taking credit for.

He told The Sun: ‘The team want me back! I spent five weeks at number one and topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic – but this was undoubtedly my career highlight.
‘Every one of them said they wanted to adopt me as their mascot after England’s fortunes changed so quickly after I performed.
‘They joked that I had turned the game — and even asked me to perform at the team hotel. It was honestly one of the best moments of my entire life.’

He added that after the game players like Declan Rice, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw all came over to give him a hug while double goalscorer Marcus Rashford opted for a high five.
The team’s youngest player Jude Bellingham, 19, also gave him a hand slap near the team tunnel – before several England stars gave him signed shirts including one for his son Indiana, 17, who loves football.
The West Ham supporter is now desperate to sing again at Sunday’s match where England will play Senegal.

He said he is hoping Fifa allow him to make it happen again as he’s ‘England’s One and Only mascot’.
Chesney took to Instagram to share snaps from the game where he posed with Declan and wrote in the caption: ‘Ok…my favourite picture of the year so far… #declanrice #fanboy #england #westham.’
The star lives in LA with his wife Kristina, 47, and children Casey, 21, Jesse, 19 and 17-year-old Indiana.
Declan signed the shirt for Indiana and wrote: ‘Indi Top Boy! – Declan Rice.’

The singer didn’t shy away from supporting his beloved country and donned a three lions shirt as he larked around before the game.
Chesney appeared in high spirits as he chatted to members of the crew, before grabbing a selfie of himself in front of the pitch.
The one hit wonder, also donned a pair of blacking jogging trousers and slicked his blonde locks to one side.
He completed the look with a selection of wooden bracelets and wore his credentials across his body.

Speaking on Tuesday’s TalkSport he said about the performance: ‘They asked me to do it, what am I gonna say? This is the first stadium gig I’ve done in 30 years.’
He went on to confirm that he would indeed be performing his 90s hit The One And Only.
‘I’m a little nervous, but I’m just more excited. It’s just the one song and no guessing for what song I’m going to do. I could probably sing that song in my sleep’.
Following his music career Chesney went on to appear in reality TV including The Games and Dancing On Ice.
