Charlize Theron spoke out about the terrifying moment her mum shot her boozed-up dad dead.
The actress, 44, recalled when she and her mum Gerda cowered behind her bedroom door for protection from her late alcoholic father Charles.
Harking back to the fearful moment, Charlize remembered her dad shooting at them through the door and she branded it a "miracle" they didn't get pelted by the bullets.
The award-winning star said Gerda killed Charles in self-defence at their childhood farm home near Johannesburg, in South Africa.
She told NPR: "My mom and I were in my bedroom leaning against the door, because he was trying to push through the door. So both of us were leaning against the door from the inside to have him not be able to push through.
"He took a step back and just shot through the door three times. None of those bullets ever hit us, which is just a miracle. But in self-defence, she ended the threat."
Charlize asserted she's not ashamed of talking about what unfolded at her childhood home.
Instead, the actress wanted to encourage people to reach out and realise they are not alone.
She added: "I'm not ashamed to talk about it, because I do think that the more we talk about these things, the more we realise we are not alone in any of it."
The Hollywood star is a mother now as she brings up her two children Jackson and August.
Recently, Charlize shut down rumours she was romancing Brad Pitt.
The actress gushed about the joys of motherhood as she said she had always wanted to be a mother.
She told The Huffington Post in 2018: "When I became a mother, I had already wanted it for a long time. I craved motherhood, and I was incredibly invested in it.
"It’s not easy to adopt, even when you’re a celebrity. But when I held my children in my arms, I was happier than I ever expected to be.
"Today, motherhood is a source of joy every single day, something stronger than everything else, more powerful than my career.”
