We seem to have fallen out of love with scrubs as of late.
Thanks to the skincare trend of sweeping on fancy new exfoliating formulas with AHAs and BHAs (acids that promote skin renewal), the good ol' scrub has fallen out of favour.
But they seem to be making a comeback, thanks to a new breed of formulas that promise to use more gentle scrub particles and ingredients to help get rid of dead skin cells and unearth healthy new ones.
We had our beauty team test out the latest launches for 2019 that all claim to brighten and boost your complexion in just a couple of minutes.
Here's what they thought…
Vida Glow Red Algae Marine Collagen Facial Exfoliator, £27.95
Beauty ed Octavia says: ‘Nice! It has collagen-boosting ingredients, and I liked the creamy formula.
'The jojoba beads felt gentle on my skin, but did the job of softening dry areas.
'It left a wax-like film when washed off, but that made me feel hydrated instead of stripped.’
L’Oréal Paris Smooth Sugar Nourish Cocoa Face & Lip Scrub, £9.99
Beauty writer Zoe says: ‘It smells amazing, I had to stop myself licking it.
'I liked the texture too – it felt less abrasive than other sugar scrubs, which can aggravate my sensitive skin.
'I avoided the eye area and used it twice a week, and it kept most of my dry skin at bay.’
Love Nature Refreshing 2-in-1 Mask & Scrub With Aloe Vera & Coconut Water, £7
Zoe says: ‘Love the whole mask and scrub combo.
'I left it on for 10 mins, then massaged it in with a bit of water, and my skin felt very soft and hydrated after using it.
'I’d use it weekly, not daily, as a nice pamper – great price too.’
Too Cool For School Coconut Sugar Facial Scrub, £22.50
Executive ed Flavia says : ‘It smells divine, but there are no instructions, so I had to guess how much to use – which was too much, because the gloopy scrub kept dripping from my face into the sink.
'My skin felt really lovely after, but I don’t think it warrants the price.’
Elemis Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator, from £12 for travel size
Features ed Emma says: ‘Smells fresh, and I like using it in the morning to wake up my skin.
'The particles are small and got rid of flaky patches without making my skin red.
It’s one of the first scrubs I’ve found that my sensitive skin loves, so worth the money!’
