Frances Quinn, who won the hit TV show in 2013, was allegedly stopped by undercover store detectives.

Police were called to the scene in Market Harborough, Leics, on April 28 and Frances, 38, apparently agreed to hand the items back, including flour and eggs.

Leicestershire Police said: “A woman had entered the shop and was detained when she tried to leave without paying for goods.

“She admitted her involvement to officers and the matter was dealt with by way of a community resolution.”

It is understood the resolution means Frances will not be allowed to enter the store as her name would be added to a list of known shoplifters held by security guards.

Frances, who won the Great British Bake Off with a three-tiered wedding cake, was allegedly interviewed by officers but has not received a criminal record.

A community resolution means the offence was accepted by the accused and Waitrose is happy with the outcome.Yesterday the supermarket declined to identify anyone, saying: “We respect the privacy of our customers.”

Frances, from Market Harborough, won the fourth series of Great British Bake Off while it was still on the BBC, beating Ruby Tandoh and KimberleyWilson.

She later claimed contestants faced a gruelling filming schedule, sometimes baking for 13 hours in a row and being interviewed eight times a day.

Following her win she has been an ambassador of the Cream Tea Society and is a frequent guest on UK radio and television.

The former children’s clothes designer has appeared on the pages of Vogue magazine, has baked for illustrator Quentin Blake and musician Jools Holland, and appeared on TV’s Pointless Celebrities.

Clients include Wimbledon Tennis Club and in 2015 she released a book, Quinntessential Baking.

The Daily Express has tried to contact Frances’s representatives for comment.
