A-Rod won’t be back as a celebrity guest on “Shark Tank” — after signing a deal to star on a “very similar” show on NBC, Page Six has learned. We’re told Alex Rodriguez is getting his own prime-time deal at the Peacock network with a “business reality show.”
But according to sources, this angered “Shark Tank” producer Sony Pictures Television, which has decreed the former Yankee won’t be back as a guest Shark, where he proved popular.
He made such great pals with resident Shark and real estate guru Barbara Corcoran that The Post revealed this month they’ve teamed to buy an East Village rental building as part of a plan to build a huge property portfolio together.
An ABC source told us: “Alex last appeared on ‘Shark Tank’ last fall and before then, he’d been on a bunch. Everyone really liked him. But he won’t be on the show anymore as he’s been shopping around a show that is very, very, very similar to ‘Shark Tank’ and Sony TV, which makes the show, got wind of this — because Alex’s people had been speaking to everyone in Hollywood.”
A source familiar with the situation insisted that A-Rod’s show is not a carbon copy of “Shark Tank,” and told us: “This show was being shopped around — it’s not like ABC was giving Alex his own prime-time spot. Alex loved ‘Shark Tank,’ and the feeling was mutual. But he already has his show ‘Back in the Game’ on CNBC . . . this is basically extending his deal with NBC.”
This means A-Rod now has TV ties to NBC, ESPN and Fox.
Last year, A-Rod — engaged to Jennifer Lopez — teamed with Shark Mark Cuban to invest in former NFL player Chris Gronkowski’s company, Ice Shaker. The pair invested $150,000 for a 15 percent stake in the business.
An NBC source said: “We are thrilled to be developing a show with Alex . . . The show is a high-concept business show.”
An insider insisted the new project’s format, “is nothing like ‘Shark Tank.’”
ABC reps didn’t get back to us. Reps for Rodriguez declined to comment.
