Bus company officials on the Isle of Man have confirmed they are investigating the incident which took place in the early hours of the morning at the Vanin Bus Depot in Douglas.

The video begins with the man pleading for help saying: ‘I can’t get out. What do I do?’

He attempts to open a locked door but says: ‘It doesn’t work. Get me out of this stupid bus. I’m trapped. It’s quarter past three in the morning.

‘I’ve had to smash the bus window open so I can go home. Cheers for that. It’s really made my weekend.’

After exiting through the broken window the man speaks into the camera saying he was now stood on top of a Department of Infrastructure van to help scale an 18ft fence around the deserted bus depot.

The video ends with the irate passenger saying: ‘The p**** did not wake me up.’

It later emerged that the man had smashed a window – but failed to use the emergency exit at the rear of the bus that would have allowed him to leave without causing any damage.

A spokesman for Isle of Man police said they are investigating the incident.

The spokesman said: ‘We have been made aware of a video circulating social media on the island of a male who is locked inside a bus during the early hours on Sunday October 22nd.

‘As a result of being locked in the man is seen to smash a window to exit the bus.

‘We can confirm both the male in the video and personnel at Bus Vannin have been in communication with the police regarding the incident which will now be subject of an investigation.’

A spokesman for the Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure, which operates the island’s bus services, confirmed the bus with the broken window had been taken out of service.

The spokesman added: ‘Internal procedures are underway and the division is working with the police on this matter.’
