Gorka Marquez says Strictly curse is part of the ‘old days’
Gorka Marquez has recently given fans an insight into his personal life with his new reality series titled Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens.
Gorka and Gemma Atkinson wanted to show fans what their life was like away from Strictly Come Dancing.
In the most recent episode, the professional dancer made a candid confession about being a father.
He explained he has missed out on so much of the parenting aspect due to his job and working away.
“It’s hard for me because I’m away quite a lot with my job,” Gorka shared.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m missing some of the best things of parenthood. When Mia was born I was on tour, came home for the labour and the birth, and then three days after that I have to go again.”

He was eliminated in week four of the 2018 series when he was partnered up with Katie Piper.
However, the following year, Gorka wasn’t partnered up with anyone, but he still took part in the group dances.
In 2020, Gorka and Maisie Smith almost won after reaching the final. For the 19th series, the dance pro was paired with Katie McGlynn and in 2022, he made it to the final once again with Helen Skelton.
When Gorka was paired with former soap star Katie McGlynn there were rumours of a “feud” between them at the time.
When the pair landed in the bottom two, fans believed there was “tension” between Gorka and Katie.
One fan posted on Twitter at the time: “Gorka looked really annoyed and Katie was barely clapping. I thought they seemed a bit off with each other last week but this week it was really obvious.”
However, the dance pro was quick to shut down any feud claims after sharing a snap of the duo on Instagram.
Gorka wrote: “Well… that was intense. Not the best feeling to be in the dance off but I couldn’t be prouder of you @katiemcglynn and how you gave your everything on that dance floor. Sorry to see @mr_njonesofficial and @nina.wadia leave, they had so much to give to the show.”
“Thank you to everybody who voted and supported us, it means the world. We’ll keep working hard and giving our best. And to those who think that we aren’t getting on, keep thinking it [thumbs up and crying laughing emois].” (sic)
There were also rumours that Gorka had planned to leave Strictly after he missed out on winning the Glitterball Trophy last year with Helen.
However, the dad of two quickly confirmed he would be back for the 2023 series, although, his celebrity partner is yet to be announced.

Gorka met his partner Gemma on Strictly in 2017 and the pair hit it off straight away.
They confirmed their relationship on Valentine’s Day in 2018 before moving in together in 2019.
They soon welcomed their first daughter Mia, and earlier this year, the couple welcomed their second child Thiago.
Before launching their reality show, Gorka and Gemma keep their social media followers regularly updated about their day-to-day lives.
The duo shares the reality of juggling work, a relationship and raising a family.
When speaking about Gorka working away so much, Gemma shared in their new show: “That’s literally it every weekend. We have him home for about two, three hours and then he has to go on to the next city or the next tour bus or the next production.
“At the minute, when it’s just the two of us, it’s alright. But in a few months, I’ll be with a baby carrier, or a pram and Mia and two dogs!”
