MANCHESTER UNITED keeper Andre Onana said he was "confident" a penalty would not be awarded for his dramatic late collision with Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
Erik ten Hag's side ground out a 1-0 victory in their Premier League opener as the visitors missed a host of chances at Old Trafford – before Raphael Varane's header settled the game.
But Wolves boss Gary O'Neil was left raging on the touchline in the closing stages when Kalajdzic appeared to be wiped out by Man Utd's new £47m shot-stopper Onana.
VAR reviewed the incident and told referee Simon Hooper to play on.
An understandably angry O'Neil was then booked for his protests, before the PGMOL later apologised to him for the decision.
Yet despite the controversial nature of the call, Onana insists he never believed a spot kick would be given.

When asked whether he thought it was a penalty, the 27-year former Inter Milan star told Sky Sports: "No, totally no.
"As a keeper you make decision – sometimes you are right, sometimes you are not. I made a decision and I am responsible for everything.
"For me it was just contact between two big guys and I was calm. I knew nothing would happen there."
When pressed on how confident he was that a spot kick would not be given, he added: "Of course I was confident."

Reacting to Onana's response, several football fans were gobsmacked by the calmness of the Cameroonian.
One said: "I’ll have pint of whatever he’s drinking!"
Another added: "I love this guy's confidence."
A third replied: "If you hate Onana's guts then this is going to be a very looong loong long season for you. 😅😅😅"
While a fourth responded: "That smile shows he knows he did wrong and got away with it."
But O'Neil did not see the amusing side of the incident as he raged at the decision.
He said: "The keeper almost took our centre-forward’s head off. But I am not overly surprised we didn’t get it.
"I thought it was a penalty live and again when I watched the replay.

Onana joined Man Utd in the summer to replace David de Gea after the Spaniard's 12-year spell at the club came to an end.
