It’s the scandal that’s rocked Emmerdale as the villagers have recently discovered that mild-mannered GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) has been having an affair with his practice nurse Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) – right under the nose of the man she lives with, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw).
Liam has, in Bernice (Samantha Giles)’s immortal words, ‘been playing hunt the thermometer with that floozy.’ And in Betty Boothroyd, too. Bernice’s outrage has been somewhat exaggerated due to the fact that she wouldn’t have said no to a bit of hanky panky with Bob in Betty Boothroyd, Judi Dench, Jane McDonald or indeed any of the B&B’s bedrooms.

But other people in the village have been shocked and horrified by the revelations. Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) is outraged on Bob’s behalf, while Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) was upset to find out that Wendy had lied to her when she said the affair was over.
For most of the village it’ll be tomorrow’s chip paper, as they say, but for Wendy and Bob’s relationship it’s been devastating. Wendy realised slightly too late that Bob was the one she really wanted to be with and Liam had just been a diversion. Unfortunately Bob had already learned of her betrayal.
Wendy desperately tries to make things right in upcoming episodes, and she knows that while she and Liam are working under the same roof Bob is always going to wonder if there’s something going on between them.
So with a heavy heart she decides to tender her resignation, and makes her way over to Liam’s house to let him know she’s leaving. He’s shocked to hear the news, but understands her reasons and wishes her well.
But as she and Liam leave the house, they’re spotted by Bob – who jumps to conclusions.
Can they convince him that it was all entirely innocent and Wendy is trying hard to put the affair behind her?
