RADIO 1 star Charlie Hedges is "really annoyed and upset" after her on-air clash with fellow DJ Arielle Free.

Arielle, 36, was pulled off air and suspended on Saturday following a dramatic exchange on the station's Dance Anthems show.

The radio star clashed with co-star Charlie Hedges after a bust-up over her choice of record.

Charlie is said to be disappointed at the situation having expected "more respect" and "support" from her.

An insider told us: "It’s been the talk of the office.

“You could hear it in Charlie’s voice that she didn’t think having Arielle on was a good idea.

"Charlie is really annoyed and upset at Arielle, they’re colleagues and she expected more respect and support from her.

“Hate is a very strong word to use about something or someone.

“Producers have also been dragged in to explain themselves to the big boss because, at the end of the day, they’re the ones paid to make sure something like this doesn’t happen."

It comes after an incident occurred live on air with Charlie Hedges.

The former Love Island: The Morning After podcast host joined Radio 1's Dance Anthem host Charlie on her show as a guest on July 29 in the party hot spot of Ibiza.

Arielle decided to tell Charlie what she thought of her show.

She said: “Can I be honest with you Charlie?… I expected better of you… I don't like this song."

"Oh really?," Charlie replied. Arielle continued: "I hate it!"

Charlie butted in, saying in reply: “Sorry I’m taking your mic down, it’s my show Arielle, have some respect please.

"See you later. Get out of here.”

A spokesperson for Radio 1 said: “Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously.”

Arielle was a guest on the show as part of a scheduled appearance and is expected to return to the station next week.

Those listening in at the time were shocked at what had happened.

One said on Twitter: "@ariellefree @ahj that was awful, Charlie did well to shut you down. Any other job and you would be fired!"
