Sinead O’Connor dies aged 56
The One Show’s Alex Jones took a moment during Wednesday’s programme to pay a tribute to singer Sinead O’Connor who has died at the age of 56.
Alex expressed: “Just before we go, we just wanted to say how shocked we are to hear the news in the last half hour that singer Sinead O’Connor has died at the age of 56.
“My goodness, nothing compares to you is such an iconic song isn’t it and our thoughts are very much with the friends and family.”
In a statement, the singer’s family confirmed the news, it read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Despite her successful career, Sinead has kept out of the spotlight since the death of her son Shane, who passed away last year.
In her final social media post, she tweeted a picture of Shane and captioned it: “Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul.”
Tributes for Sinead came flooding in after the news of her death, with Former X Factor stars Jedward tweeting: “Rest in Peace Sinead O’Connor very sad to hear the news Irish True Irish Icon of our Generation!
“We only just met her this year and she was in good spirits, a very welcoming person with a big heart.”
@YvonneReid17063 commented: “Rest in Heavenly peace @SineadOConnor you are loved by many. #SineadOConnor.”
