EastEnders has introduced an important new prop to the set, as part of the BBC’s Let it Grow initiative, with Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley paying them a visit to help Walford bloom.

The aim of the initiative is to inspire people to turn grey spaces into wild and colourful places through planting seeds and helping them grow, with everyone encouraged to get involved no matter how big or small their space, or what experience they have had with planting.

Jo Whiley headed to Albert Square with a specially planted pair of bright pink boots to brighten up the set.

As part of her visit, Jo got to tour the famous lot, and learnt all about the efforts EastEnders has gone to to be more sustainable and nature-friendly.

Jo’s boots were given pride of place on the steps of No.3 by Jack Branning actor Scott Maslen, who shared his own new found passion for nature.

The pink boots, which have become home to a vibrant verbena, will appear on screen in the near future, and are something for fans to keep an eye out for.

Talking about her visit to the famous Square, Jo said: ‘I had so much fun visiting the EastEnders set at Elstree, planting verbena in some bright pink boots, as a quirky addition to one of the famous doorsteps of Walford.

‘Scott Maslen, aka Jack Branning, has kindly promised me he’ll take care of them!

‘I hope they will bloom and grow as part of the Albert Square set and help inspire viewers to have a go at letting it grow on their own doorsteps, window boxes or hanging baskets!’

Though Jack Branning is currently pre-occupied with his job as local detective and trying to repair his marriage with wife Denise Fox (Diane Parish), we’re sure the new addition to the set will be in good hands.

Jo will be talking all about her visit to Albert Square on her BBC Radio 2 show tonight (July 19) between 7-9pm, which you can catch here.
